About CareScout Community Score

CareScout Community Score

Based on CareScout’s proprietary scoring.

The CareScout Community Score is calculated using our proprietary rating system, created to help families make well-informed choices about senior living options. This score is determined using a comprehensive set of criteria, including sentiment analysis of online ratings and reviews, user-submitted feedback on CareScout.com, completeness of the community profile, input from employees and local advisors, a community's contracted status with CareScout, and the frequency of visits to the community's website and location. Communities can earn a maximum score of 10.

What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a CareScout representative for details.

The reviews of The Blake at Waco are overwhelmingly positive, although several serious concerns are also reported. Many families describe the community as beautiful, clean, welcoming, and more like an upscale hotel than a care facility. Residents and relatives frequently praise the compassionate staff, nurses, administrators, receptionists, and memory-care teams. Reviewers say employees are attentive, communicative, patient, and willing to go beyond expectations. Several families report that their loved ones are happy, socially engaged, and receiving excellent care, with access to meals, medical services, therapy, salon services, exercise, outings, and activities. Spacious rooms, private bathrooms, a fresh appearance, and accommodations for dietary needs are also commonly highlighted. Some reviewers specifically commend the memory-care staff for keeping residents active and supporting families. However, a minority of reviews describe significant problems. One repeated complaint alleges response times of 30 minutes or longer after pressing the assistance button, poor food, insufficient activities, missed room-service meals, extra tray charges, frequent fee increases, and care levels that do not match the services provided. The reviewer also criticizes management for ignoring concerns raised during monthly town-hall meetings and considers the facility severely overpriced. Another family reports that a memory-care resident left the building unnoticed and later fell without adequate supervision. A separate review states that the facility could not meet a resident’s extensive daily-care needs, contributing to a serious bedsore, and recommends it only for people requiring limited assistance. Overall, The Blake is praised for its environment, staff, amenities, and resident satisfaction, but families should verify pricing, staffing, response times, supervision, and whether the facility can meet their loved one’s specific care needs.

February 2023

I have lived at The Sequoias in San Francisco for ten years and not a day goes by that I don't say thanks for being here. During the pandemic, we had everything we needed here in the building. I just sold my car, and don't really need one here with the bus and taxi service so available. My meals are cooked for me, served in the dining room, and I don't have to wash dishes. It is perfect to be able to live alone and in community. There is always something to do: there's the gym, gift shop, weekly movies, lectures, and almost daily musical presentations. We have a resident chorus and groups that play bridge, Mah Jong, bingo, and other games. I feel more secure living here than I have ever felt in San Francisco.
