Pricing Estimates, Content & AI

  • About CareScout Pricing

CareScout understands the importance of price transparency in the search for senior living. For most families, it’s the first point of consideration and it’s essential to understanding which communities are in their consideration set.

That’s why we’ve developed a estimated pricing to support families in the decision process. As you use the carescout.com site, you may notice slight differences in how pricing is displayed from page to page. That’s because CareScout uses two different methods to deliver the most accurate pricing possible.

    CareScout Estimated Pricing

CareScout delivers the most accurate pricing estimates for over 60,000 senior living communities, including independent living, assisted living, memory care and board and care homes. We use advanced machine learning algorithms, confirmed prices from select communities and real-time data from families who have moved in to senior living communities. Unlike any other model in the industry, our estimates are differentiated to predict pricing by care type, room type and geography, and are updated monthly based on the most recent transactions in the area.

    Community Provided Pricing

In cases where we have confirmed pricing shared directly from a community owner, we will display that pricing instead of the CareScout estimate. We do this to ensure we are delivering the most accurate set of data possible. This pricing may reflect room type, care type and any seasonal incentives or discounts a community may be offering at the time the pricing was confirmed.

    FAQ:

How can CareScout help me evaluate senior living pricing?

CareScout offers several ways to understand pricing as it relates to your care needs and your geography:

    • Pricing comparison charts: On each community profile page, you will notice a section that allows you to compare the price of the community to average prices in nearby communities. CareScout experts have found that some families may be willing to extend their search radius to incorporate a lower-priced area.

    • Community descriptions: In the “About” section of every community profile, you can find helpful information to aid you in your decision journey. Each description includes information about the “starting at” price of the community as it relates to other community pricing in your area.

    • Community recommendations: When you submit your information to CareScout, we’ll email you a personalized set of recommendations that takes into account your budget. We match your unique care needs and budget with in-network providers.

    How does CareScout estimate pricing?

Here’s where we get a little technical. Our pricing estimate uses advanced machine learning algorithms to analyze vast amounts of real data and extract meaningful insights. The estimate is built on a Support Vector Regression base model, which is a framework designed to map complex, non-linear relationships between variables. This sophisticated approach is key to decoding the layered pricing structures common across senior living.

In addition to using real data, our team has employed feature engineering techniques to extract relevant features from the data and optimize the performance of our model. These features include location-specific variables, accommodation size, available amenities, and the level of care provided. By incorporating these features into our machine learning model, we can capture the nuanced factors that influence pricing and provide more accurate estimates.

We understand that the senior living industry is dynamic, with pricing structures and market conditions constantly evolving. To keep our pricing estimates up to date and accurate, we have implemented a system for continuous learning and updating. This involves regularly incorporating real-time data from senior living communities, monitoring market trends, and adapting our algorithms to reflect the changing landscape. By doing so, we ensure that users receive the most current and accurate pricing information.

  • Our Commitment to Transparency

At CareScout we believe that authentic feedback is essential for families making critical senior living decisions. Our goal is to provide a balanced, honest, and safe environment for sharing experiences. To maintain this integrity, all reviews we publish must adhere to the following guidelines:

    Who Should Submit a Review?

We welcome reviews from anyone with a direct connection to a provider listed on our site, including:

    • Prospective Residents, Care Recipients and Families: Those who have toured a senior living provider, met with a home care provider, or interacted with a provider through inquiry.

    • Current & Former Residents, Care Recipients and Families: Those with direct, first-hand experience of the care or living environment.

We do not knowingly publish reviews from the following sources:

    • Current or Former Employees: To keep our ratings focused on resident or care recipient care and lifestyle, we do not publish reviews from staff regarding their current or former place of employment.

    • Owners & Operators: Corporate executives or stakeholders may not submit reviews for their own properties, home care agencies, or those of their competitors.

    • Direct Competitors: Any review submitted by a competing community or home care agency to negatively impact a peer’s rating will be removed as fraudulent.

    • Paid or Incentivized Reviewers: We do not publish reviews if we know they were written in exchange for money, gifts, or discounts.

    • Non-First-Hand Observers: We do not publish “hearsay.” Reviews must be based on your own direct interactions or those of a loved one in your care.

    Published Reviews

All reviews are published exactly as submitted. Consequently, you may encounter occasional errors in spelling, punctuation, or formatting.

We do not suppress negative reviews unless they conflict with our publication policy.

What Makes for a Helpful Review?

At CareScout, we value reviews that go beyond a simple star rating. A high-quality review helps other families make informed decisions and helps communities improve their care. To provide the most value, we encourage reviewers to include the following:

    • Specific Details: Instead of saying “the staff is great,” describe an interaction. (e.g., “The wellness director, Sarah, took the time to adjust my dad’s physical therapy schedule every week.”)

    • Recent Experience: Feedback is most helpful when it reflects the current state of the community (ideally within the last 12 months).

    • The “Why” Behind the Score: If you give a 5-star or a 1-star rating, explain the specific factors that led to that score.

    • Multiple Perspectives: Mention various aspects of the experience, such as the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the grounds, the variety of activities, or the communication with management.

    • Authentic Advice: What is one thing you wish you had known before engaging with this provider? This “insider tip” is often the most valuable part of a review for other families.

    What We Do Not Publish

To ensure fairness and safety, we will not publish reviews that contain:

    • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): Full names of staff, care recipients or residents, phone numbers, private medical details, or other information that, taken together, could reasonably identify an individual other than the reviewer.

    • Inappropriate Content: Profanity, hate speech, threats, libelous statements, or harassment.

    • Non-Original Content: Reviews copied from other sites or AI-generated spam.

    • AI-Generated Reviews: Reviews that we know or suspect to be generated by AI or other LLM tools.

    • Allegations of Illegal Activity: Statements regarding criminal acts should be reported to the proper authorities; we will not participate in adjudicating legal or safety issues on our site.

    • Off-Topic Feedback: Content unrelated to the services, facility, or care provided.

Why Your Review Might Be “Pending”

All reviews undergo a manual vetting process to ensure they meet the criteria above. Consequently, there may be a lag between when you submit a review and when that review is published. We do not suppress negative reviews simply because they are critical; as long as they are honest, respectful, and adhere to our guidelines, they will be published.

    A Final Note

Reporting Safety or Legal Concerns: Reviews should not be used to report elder abuse, medical emergencies, or illegal activity. If you have immediate concerns regarding the safety or rights of a resident, please contact the appropriate state regulatory agencies or local law enforcement directly.

If you are concerned about a published review that you think might be in violation of our policies, you can submit a request to review or remove the review here.

  • Our Human-First Approach to AI

At CareScout, we believe caregiving is a deeply personal journey rooted in empathy and human connection. While we embrace AI’s potential to help families navigate the complexities of aging, we also believe this technology must be managed with extreme care. Here’s how we embed responsible use of AI into the governance of our products, services and actions:

Principles That Guide Our Use of AI

CareScout uses AI to enhance our work, but we believe technology must always serve people—not the other way around. To keep our innovation safe and ethical, our use of AI adheres to the following core principles:

    Human Accountability

We strive to ensure that human oversight is integrated into every AI system we design. Every AI tool should have a designated owner who is responsible for its outcomes. For higher-risk AI applications, a designated person should have the authority to review and, where appropriate, override AI-driven decisions.

    Risk-Based Governance

We manage AI tools according to the degree of potential impact on our consumers, clients, and partners. The higher the potential impact, the greater the degree of oversight and governance it receives. We also hold our AI software vendors to the same legal and compliance standards we apply to all other vendors.

    Fairness and Inclusion

We are committed to preventing discriminatory or biased outputs from AI. Our AI applications should be designed so that unintended or unjust harm can be quickly detected and remediated. Those who develop and implement our AI applications should receive training on the fairness and inclusion risks associated with AI.

    Privacy and Data Security

Protecting personal information is a top priority. We use a data minimization strategy, which means we only collect the specific data needed to do the job at hand. We also use security controls designed to prevent unauthorized access to and malicious use of our AI applications.

    Safety and Reliability

Our AI tools should be dependable. The data used to train, validate, and operate our AI applications should be accurate, relevant, representative, and fit-for-purpose. We aim to conduct periodic performance assessments of higher-risk AI applications to ensure they are functioning as intended.

Transparency (The “Why” Behind the AI)

We strive to be transparent with stakeholders regarding when and how our AI applications are used.

How We Govern Our Use of AI

Our governance isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Instead, it is risk-based—meaning we put the most oversight on the tools that have the biggest potential impact on our customers and employees.

    Proportional Oversight

We scale our governance proportionally based on the risks associated with each specific AI application.

    Full Lifecycle Management

AI will be governed throughout the lifecycle of its use. This includes:

    • Planning: Evaluating the business case, requirements, and risks.

    • Implementation: Overseeing AI during use, including periodic performance assessments.

    • Decommissioning: Safely turning it off when it’s no longer needed.

    Rigorous Compliance Structures

We will build internal systems to make sure our AI complies with the guiding principles and all applicable state and federal laws. These structures help us:

    • Identify potential risks early.

    • Fix problems (mitigate risks) before they affect anyone.

    • Ensure the tool works for the people using it.

    Vendor Accountability

We don’t just take an outside company’s word that their AI is safe. We use a screening and review process for every AI vendor we work with. We hold them to the same legal and compliance standards as any other partner in the CareScout family.

    Roles and Responsibilities

Our AI governance relies on a Three Lines of Defense model to ensure clear accountability.

    • First Line (Business and Application Owners): Each AI application has a designated owner who is responsible for defining the business case, maintaining documentation, obtaining required approvals, complying with applicable policies and procedures, and monitoring performance throughout its lifecycle.

    • Second Line (Risk, Legal, and Compliance): An independent team maintains our AI risk management framework and procedures, reviews and risk rates AI applications, maintains the AI inventory, and provides independent assessment and guidance.

    • Third Line (Internal Audit): Provides independent and objective review of the effectiveness of first- and second-line activities and assesses adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and the framework.

    Prohibited Uses of AI

To protect the dignity, privacy, and agency of our customers and employees, we do not allow AI to be used in the following ways:

    Fully Automated Decisions

We believe in the “human touch.” We do not use AI for automating decision-making without a real person reviewing and approving the outcome.

    Manipulation or Exploitation

AI should never be used to deceive people. We strictly prohibit:

    • Subliminal Techniques: Using hidden or deceptive AI tricks to change how a person behaves.

    • Exploiting Vulnerabilities: Using AI to take advantage of someone’s age, disability, or social situation to force them into a specific behavior.

    Biometric Categorization

We do not use physical data (like facial scans or fingerprints) to categorize people or guess their:

    • Race or religious beliefs

    • Political opinions or trade union memberships

    • Sexual orientation

    Social Scoring

We will never use AI to give people a “social score.” This means we won’t rank or classify individuals based on their daily social behavior to treat them differently in unrelated areas of their lives (like denying a service because of a personality trait).

    Why These Rules Matter

These boundaries ensure that CareScout remains a safe environment. By prohibiting these practices, we make sure that technology is used to empower the employees, caregivers and families we serve.

    A Few Final Notes

A Note on Our Evolving Standards

Artificial Intelligence is evolving rapidly. We strive to remain current with industry developments and regulatory changes to support the responsible use of AI. Our use of AI is reflective of the last update date of this page and may change as the technology environment does. We will update our principles statement as needed to reflect material changes to our use of AI or regulatory requirements.

    Our Commitment to You

At CareScout, AI is a tool we use to sharpen our work—but it is never the final voice. From our nurse-led care plans to our vetted network of providers to financial products that help families prepare for the long term, every critical decision is backed by the empathy, experience and deep expertise of our human team. We are committed to using technology responsibly to build a better future for aging.
