Enjoy the warmth of our beautiful new community in downtown San Rafael. The historic Spanish missions in California, including Mission San Rafael Arcángel down the street, have served as design inspiration for Aegis Living San Rafael, from the stucco exterior and gabled red terracotta tile roof to the arched entryways and fireplace clad in painted ceramic tiles. Our community will have an effortless ease that makes everyone feel welcome and at home. Aegis Living San Rafael opens in 2025, and both Assisted Living and Memory Care apartments are available to reserve now. While the community will be all new, Aegis Living brings over 25 years of experience continually raising the bar on Assisted Living and Memory Care. We’re proud to offer a truly high level of care, and to help you stay in your apartment while receiving flexible levels of service. We warmly accommodate couples with differing care needs, and we are uniquely able to support transitional Assisted Living for those with mild to moderate memory loss. "I have been a resident at Drake Terrace for several years now and I love living here. The management team is wonderful to work with and they all seem to have been here for a long time, which says a lot in this industry. We have made many new friends and feel very much a part of this community because of the fantastic activities director who works so hard to give us something fun to look forward to every day. My only complaint is that the food could be better, but given that they are serving so many people at once, it's a minor concern. Overall I am very happy here and would recommend Drake to anyone looking for a new home." - Juanita…

"I've lived at ALMAV, San Rafael for the past three years and have been extremely pleased with this home away from home. The administrative staff with its supportive group of assistants, leaves very little to be desired. Maintenance, activities, health care, spiritual and culinary perform far more than expected. As a resident in independent living, I can vouch from experience that there is very little, if anything, that's not professionally addressed. As with any living condition, everything is not always perfect, but I'm "One Happy Camper" living here at ALMAV. ." - Rudy…

"They provide good high acuity care, but the rooms are small and don't have private bathrooms. So really only makes sense when patients need a lot of care. Not retirement living like the Redwoods." - Melissa

"Comforting Hands? More like Greedy Hands and I would not recommend them. The staff seem nice but they are being done no favors under the current management. Our experience: my 95-year-old friend was referred by a Kaiser social worker to stay at “Comforting Hands” for two weeks upon his hospital release. With a 30% cut for the social worker, my friend was charged $4,500 for two weeks! (read: you should absolutely negotiate the price for a loved one in the same situation). The administrator made my friend’s stay very uncomfortable because she was constantly fretting about getting paid. When I learned of this, I went there to help get things sorted. I gave her a check for $1,000 from my friend. She agreed to accepting another post-dated check for the remainder until my friend could get his funds sorted as soon as he was home again. However, she did not honor the agreement. Most unscrupulously, she changed the date on the check without consent (!) and cashed it 14 days early — causing my friend all sorts of problems. She would later argue she was owed this money for services rendered. Sure… but then don’t make verbal agreements you don’t intend to keep!" - Awaclawiczek@gmail.com…

The figures below show the average monthly starting costs for assisted living of nearby cities. Keep in mind that these figures are an average, and that the numbers used to calculate it spanned a wide range. In fact, CareScout data suggests that most families will underestimate their monthly budget by almost 20%, meaning that once inclusions and services are factored in, they can actually afford more than they originally thought.
