"This (expensive) life-care facility is terrible. My parent has been there for about ten years. They are unable to accommodate even a common dietary restriction (gluten-free) with any consistency. Their staff is so poorly paid that the turnover rate is astounding. They are constantly short of staff and Ascension (old name is Alexian) just deflects by saying it's hard to get people, when in reality they just don't pay enough to retain good employees. There are a few nurses in Assisted Living who are truly exceptional, but they are so overworked and underpaid, I honestly don't know why they stay. Alexian's staffing inadequacies are so bad that they regularly bring in temps to do things like give showers, which should only ever be given by staff that the residents know and feel comfortable with. Poorly run, poorly managed. No one in admin. ever even answers the phone! Food service and quality is marginal at best. "If you work at or have loved ones living at Viva (formerly Greenfield and Commonwealth) Senior Living on Laboratory Rd, beware of bedbugs! The management sent an exterminator once and did no follow up. All this happened while my mother was recovering from a serious stroke. Her repeated requests that maintenance remove an infested sofa and area rug were ignored. Caregivesr, who she presently needs 24/7, quit because of allergic reactions to bed bug bites leaving her without assistance for extended periods. I moved my mother to a hotel when the infestation became so severe, her apartment was uninhabitable. She lived there while I renovated my home for her to move in. It’s astonishing to me how little was done to address a public health hazard. My mother had to discard thousands of dollars worth of her possessions, and her requests for fair compensation were ignored. After the poor response to that infestation, you can be certain that more apartments and public areas in the facility." - Edward… Read more
