"Very distressing experience for our elderly parent in this ALF, created significant alarm for our family. Much to say about avoiding this facility. Breaks our heart knowing the sweet residents still there. Exec mgr never bothered to meet us. Not as a courtesy, not for a welcome, and not even on move-out. Resisted, but answered, a phone call at move-in, and was brusque and arrogant. Let that be your first warning. The executive nurse was provided a brief (3-5 sentence email) in advance of move-in, citing small, notable information helpful for quality of life, including the absolute need for a specific medication. She never replied. In fact, over the course of 2 months and 3 emails, she never bothered to email a response. Food menu: the pretty, pretty menu at the dining area entrance: if the foods shown on that menu were ever available, they not available by the time this resident reached the dining room. BBQ chicken never materialized, for example. Was told Cobb salad unavailable due to lack of bacon, BLT sandwich not available due to lack of lettuce, and so on. Served lasagne with a side of corn and roll (not a balanced diet, by any imagination), as an example meal. [Personal medical information removed from review for privacy]. We removed the resident to a different facility immediately. Although the Notice of Move was emailed to the Executive Director, with request to acknowledge receipt, again, she did not reply. We kept correspondence copies and would be happy to share. On move out walk-through with [Staff], a personable and polite admin staffer, we pointed out an excrement odor on the 2nd floor, which had been pungently persistent for a couple of weeks, without any noted repair. She acknowledged the odor, said it was down the hall. (Well, FIX IT!) In short, the MedTechs and Caregivers try very hard to do their jobs, and were good people. I wish for them the best of careers. The Mgt however apparently does not realize they are providing CARE for PEOPLE, and really should consider another line of work. Such arrogance. Such hubris. "A relative of mine was admitted to the Oaks Post Acute in Orangeburg SC around the 1st part of April 2025, Please, please do not put anyone in this place. It's not fit for a dog to live in and the care is very poor. They do not communicate with each other and definatly do not take care of the patients very well.They do not listen to the patients family. They do not clean the bathrooms or rooms. We had to do that ourselves, therefore The Oaks post acute of Orangeburg needs to refund medicade that part of the monthly charge! My relative was bedridded and could not talk or walk at all, but her bathroom stayed FILTHY! Molded ice bucket was found in her room and also some of her clothes was molded.She was taken off all of her meds and placed on comfort meds, but wasn't getting them because she didn't "LOOK" LIKE SHE WAS IN PAIN. "My mother was in this dump for 1 week for rehab. She was supposed to be there much longer. I took her out of there and had her sent to the hospital. Peachtree was supposed to get her better, instead they were letting her die. She left there with Parotitis (an infected salivary gland which causes painful swelling of the parotid glands), severe dehydration and a uti. The nurse told me the soreness in her jaw was a crick in her neck. She couldn't even open her eyes or talk at this point. She was limp and lifeless. We visited mama every day and even met with the nurse and a case worker to let them know that we were not happy with mama's care or progress. It only got worse. "I'm being generous with one star. When the nurses aren't running around trying to take care of their normal duties, I know and understand that they are overworked and understaffed and give the best care that is possible. As for the workings of this place, it's next to impossible to get anyone on the phone if you need to speak to someone in the office or a nurse on the floor. I have literally rung the main and only number for 20 minutes with no one picking up, and if they do, and transfer you to a hallway, you're lucky if it is answered at all. Forget about voicemail,, if for some reason the voicemail kicks in and picks up don't bother leaving a message, as no one checks it or bothers to call you back anyway. This "facility," is old and outdated and in need of a complete overhaul, starting with some of the Admissions Administrator who can't be bothered to respond to an email, or phone call, let alone the social worker understand about how to properly and completely fill out requested medical forms that must be completed, and should have been completed months ago for transfer papers, (but could not open the attachment, so why bother saying anything for 4 months!!!!! 🤬 4 months for an application, which wasn't done then, and now recently that same paperwork is still not yet complete. Such incompetency is inexcusable, the lack of caring holding up necessary processes that should have been properly completed weeks ago now holding back a transfer due to their incompetence and neglect, and the inability to meet a deadline. The family member was sent here for physical therapy. Let's just say it didn't happen and leave it at that. He's in much worse shape now physically, then six months ago. This is the second Carlyle facility, and God willing, the last If I was a millionaire, they would be wiped off the face of the earth and replaced with state of the art facilities with triple the staff who are able to respond to call lights within minutes, not 20, 30 plus minutes later. Speaking of call buttons, during this weeks visit, the call button was 6 feet away on the other side of a dresser, wrapped up around and underneath a garbage can! I PHYSICALLY had to rip it out from underneath the entangled mess to get it free!!! 🤬 I also do not appreciate having the phone constantly disconnected because they didn't want to pick up the phone, and I left a message for a call back from a specific nurse before she left for the weekend, I spent 2 hours last night trying to reach that nurse before she left.
