"My mom stayed here for a year and a half and it was nothing but problems. Cold food, overnight pendant response times can be 2-3 hours, not getting everyone out of their rooms during a fire drill, no sanitizer in the entire facility for four days, elevator(s) broken for four months straight, the bus and car didn't work for weeks at a time, lost laundry, etc. The dining room is a complete disaster. They run out of entrees within 5 minutes of the dining room opening, and the food is way too salty. The residents have spoken up about this numerous times. However, nothing changes. They served hamburgers and didn't have ketchup on more than one occassion. Hamburgers served on bread, not buns. And, there's a Kroger/Publix within walking distance. A grilled chease sandwich served without the cheese. They run out of coffee cups, lids, creamer, iced tea, bread, desserts, you name it. And, it's constant. "I am actually disappointed in this facility. Formerly the Oaks in West Cobb, I believe there is a new owner and director . Waited to write this review in hopes that certain concerns would be resolved . There is a lack of staff to take residents to the dining room, The machine for guests' name tags is not in service. "The Gardens have worked out very well for my Mom! She was previously in a very small facility which required her to interact with the other ladies almost all day long. It was difficult for my Mom since she has lived by herself for most of the last 5 years. The director, Sherry, and the manager, Yvie, have been most helpful in getting her settled in. They even had her room furnished and decorated when we brought my Mom, which was a nice touch. Mom has mentioned a few times how the other ladies, meaning caregiving staff, have been very sweet to her and she likes them. The only compliant we have heard form Mom is she wished the food was a little better, but Mom has become a pretty picky eater in her later years! We are very pleased with the way Mom transitioned into the Gardens. Please be aware that some of the other reviews you are reading are prior to a new management taking over the Gardens in early 2018. They have already dressed up the grounds and have started remodeling the inside of the building. "Nice improvement but needs a little more Brickmont of Acworth could be such a wonderful place if they paid closer attention to who they hire and how their leadership treats the staff. The caregivers in this community are some of the most caring and loyal people I’ve ever met they truly love their residents. The problem is the head nurse. She’s intimidating, disrespectful, and makes employees feel small and afraid to speak up. That kind of energy doesn’t belong in a place meant to care for others. The good news is that memory care has come a long way. The new Activity Director is doing an amazing job bringing life, joy, and structure back into the building. The residents are more active, more engaged, and you can feel the difference the moment you walk in. "My mother is currently residing in the memory care facility. The facility was sold a few months ago and I am extremely concerned about the level of care. The top 4 reasons that I placed her there - 1 . there were real memory care activities to allow residence to thrive as the disease progresses 2. Longevity of staff, most had been there more than 5 years or more, had a real passion for caring for the senior population and communicated with families about loved ones frequently. 3. Great food that felt like dining in a nice restaurant with meal choices 4. Cleanliness and decore. Not sterile feels like home and visitation warm and welcoming. Latest events is that new company has let go all of the very capable long-term staff because they don’t want to pay them.
