"My aunt has lived at Bonaventure of Vancouver since Aug 2021 (in Assisted Living "ASL"). She has recently moved to Memory Care. I have spent many days at this residential facility. I knew Bonaventure of Vancouver was the one the moment I walked in. It is newer facility, with a movie theater, bowling alley, hair and nail salon, and more - including outdoor activities including shopping, nature walks, museum visits, etc. Too many to list here. My aunt, who has dementia yet knows when she is happy, loves the place. The staff is the best I've ever seen - in ANY profession. They not only take care of my aunt - they take care of me, too - always concerned about their charges. For me - it's more keeping up my spirits. They're great! "I moved in here about seven months ago from my home in Bothell, and could not be happier with the facility, that employs a very very attentive staff to the residence needs, very good meal choices, and with over 200 residents here I have yet to hear any negative comments about the care or the facility. I was a family doctor practicing medicine for 43 years with 4 doctor partners, and I had experience here with several of my patients living here including my wonderful retired nurse. "Please do not turn to Brookdale Foundation House for help with your loved ones. They are in the business of making money. Period. When we first inquired here, they seemed so nice and accommodating, that is UNTIL they found out we were on a budget and asked about Medicaid programs. Where at first they were willing to negotiate on rent, second-person fees, community fee, etc., the minute they found out we were not wealthy, they changed completely. The answer to every question we asked was "no," "no," "no," and they weren't so nice about it. They wanted to charge my parents nearly $7000/month in rent for a barely 600 square-foot one-bedroom apartment, a $4500 (non-refundable) community fee, and nearly $6000/month in care costs for just ONE of my parents.If you have done any research on assisted living, you will know that this exploitative and outrageous! "Wow, I'm surprised to see that the recent change of hands isn't mentioned, and that this place is rated best of 2026, when 2026 just started! My parents moved there and love the cottages and simplicity of having the internet and cable TV (and maybe utilities?) all rolled into one package. They were also getting weekly housekeeping. Unfortunately the new management company (Avenue 5 I think) took over, so without notice they don't get any of those things, but are expected to keep paying the premium rent. "I believe should go to cooking school. He will put a hot entre on an ice cold plate, because to has been plated long before the meal and they keep it in the fridge. They sometimes substitute without letting the residents know and then the serving staff take the displeasure from the residents, and sometimes we are really upset and not too nice to the servers. "Merrill Gardens is lovely unless one actually needs the assisted living that they advertise. We had hoped that our parent would be able to end their days there, but Merrill Gardens is unwilling to provide the care they advertise and that is listed on the contract we signed. Furthermore, their head nurse is really unfit for dealing with the slightest problem and should really find employment where she doesn't have to deal with people. Many of the staff are lovely, and the facility is beautiful. Just don't plan on ever transitioning from independent living to assistant living. They cannot provide it as advertised." - S.… Read more
