"Do Not Trust Ivy Park Playa Vista My family and I are deeply dissatisfied with Ivy Park Playa Vista. After two years of my father living there, we ultimately had to remove him and transfer him to another facility. Following our departure, Ivy Park continued to charge us, even drafting funds directly from our bank account without authorization. I am appalled by the lack of care and integrity we experienced. My father was enrolled in the Memory Care Program, yet he did not have the mental capacity to communicate the disturbing realities of his care—or lack thereof—that I later uncovered. It became painfully clear that both he and many other residents were enduring unacceptable conditions. The facility is chronically understaffed, a problem that has persisted for years. Despite the efforts of a few dedicated employees, even they began leaving for other facilities because the environment was simply unsustainable. "For nearly 3 years, 3 of my relatives have been residents at Oakmont of Torrance. In that time, -turnover has been off the charts, including about 5 executive directors, about 5 health care directors, and several activity directors; -foodservice has been terrible, with residents often waiting an hour or more for food; -response to emergency call buttons worn by residents has often taken 30-45 minutes; and -residents have been locked out in the evening, with nobody answering phones to unlock the door. Steps have been taken to address some issues, such as giving residents a code to open the front door at night. And under the community's latest Executive Director, service levels seem to be improving. We are cautiously optimistic, but there still is a long way to go. Meanwhile, prices continue to increase, and most recently, Oakmont decided to begin charging residents for parking.
