Wiley Mission

8.6
99 East Main Street, Marlton, NJ, 08053
Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

History Wiley Mission has had a unique beginning. It is an outgrowth of a ministry that began during the depression years of the early 1930's. At that crucial time there was dire need in the city of Camden. There was no work, no money, and in many instances whole families were deprived of the bare necessities of life. Rev. John S. Hackett was appointed as Pastor of the Wiley Methodist Episcopal Church in March of 1927. Therefore, he found himself concerned not only with the spiritual needs of his congregation, but greatly involved in the many needs of the community who at that time were suffering with deprivation. He and his small congregation began to deal with those problems. The first program set up a breakfast for school children. This advanced into a feeding program for whole families which included an evening meal. By 1934 Wiley was caring for as many as four hundred men per day in the Old Post Office Building in Camden. In 1935, a lady came to Rev. Hackett and told him that the Lord had impressed her that a ministry to the aging should be included in the ministry of Wiley Mission. With the help of a faithful congregation, he proceeded to set up this plan. Mother Johnson became the first resident and was the inspiration for this work in its care for the weak and infirm. On April 19, 1939 the outreach to the needy had grown to such proportions that it was necessary to incorporate the Wiley Mission. It was granted a charter on that date under the church act of the State of New Jersey. In 1940 Wiley began to dedicate all of its efforts in health care to those in sunset years. A permanent location was established here in Marlton, New Jersey. Woven throughout this ministry is a philosophy of care that has never been lost over the years. When the founders of this work looked out of the parsonage window one day and saw two little children salvaging their breakfast out of a garbage can, Pastor Hackett said, "We will hit that thing!" This ministry has worked diligently and sincerely to alleviate the distress of poverty, the crippling of disease, and the weakness of the aging and infirm ever since. Today Wiley Mission continues to dedicate itself to this philosophy of care. The Board of Trustees and congregation of Wiley Mission, intend to emphasize that this is a Christ-centered ministry, ministering to all. Some will have differing needs. Their background and economical standings will be different as well. Many will indicate certain spiritual desires, but to all there will be a program of care that will exalt and glorify the Lord Jesus and make Him known to men.…

The Quadrangle

From $3,571/mo

9.9
3300 Darby Road, Haverford, PA, 19041
Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

We’re welcoming brighter days as our residents have the chance to enjoy group activities, communal dining, social events, and indoor visitation, subject to community operating status. A Haverford, Pennsylvania, continuing care retirement community (CCRC), providing independent living for active older adults, as well as personal care, memory care, and rehabilitation services Founded by retired Quaker professors in 1986, our community offers a distinctly inclusive, intellectual, and highly engaged environment Offering a variety of 1-2 bedroom apartment styles, along with eight residential buildings, skilled nursing and personal care facilities, and numerous residential cottages Featuring 85 resident-run committees, a vibrant activities program that includes an emphasis on fitness and personal training, and a multitude of art, literature, science/health, and cultural opportunities with a focus on the mind, body, and spirit. The Quadrangle, which is located on 74 wooded acres, just nine miles from Philadelphia’s City Hall, was founded by a group of Haverford College professors who were looking for a new approach to retirement homes. By creating a place where older adults could live securely, share their interests, and enjoy one another’s company, they felt they had created a new kind of community that had the feel of a college campus, with an emphasis on creativity and continued learning. When you enter our lovely community, the first thing you will notice is the beautiful art that lines the walls throughout the hallways. Many of this is resident-created art, and you will sense immediately that there is a focus on fine arts, pottery, and sculpting (much of this work is created in our popular art studio). Our residents are highly involved in the curation of our committees and programming and have even adopted "the life of the mind" as our community's motto, as so much at The Quadrangle revolves around providing enriching, fulfilling experiences. And, to ensure the community is consistently meeting residents' needs, we are proud to boast an active and involved Resident's Association with a ten member council and four officers who meet with the resident body monthly to consider community needs and concerns—allowing ample opportunity for involvement in the life and governance of The Quadrangle. The library, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is at the heart of our building, and we are proud to offer more than 10,000 volumes. Our resident committee purchases 30-50 new books each month and we offer two bookcases of work written by our resident authors. We offer an excellent dining program, and our in-house chef offers a fully inclusive meal program. Our property features a 6-hole executive golf course and putting green, bocce, tennis courts, croquet, community garden plots, and a greenhouse. The Quadrangle is truly like no other senior living community, and we would be honored to welcome you and your family for a tour of our buildings and our grounds. You will notice immediately that our residents are friendly and approachable, and—if you wish—you will have the opportunity to meet many of the people who make our community so vibrant and talk to them about life at The Quadrangle. Contact us about booking a tour. We look forward to speaking with you! Read about our Reopening Guidelines in Accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health here.…
